The Academic Library and Its Users
Helmy Sakr | 2023 | ISBN: 1682508579 | English | 338 pages | True PDF | 7 MB
Libraries, since ages, have stored materials that enable ideas, knowledge and experiences to be passed on from generation to generation. Libraries build collections tailored to the need[/center]
and goals of the organizations they serve. For example, academic libraries, build collections for students, teachers and researchers. This collection is systematically organized by the library for use by the users. The library collection serves as an important resource in education, work, and recreation of millions of people Academic libraries are the libraries which serve the institutions of higher learning, such as a college or a university - libraries in secondary and primary schools are called school libraries. Basically, academic libraries are intended to serve two purposes: to support the curriculum and to support the research of the faculty and students. Earlier, academic libraries were having print-based reading materials comprising mainly of books and the periodicals. Libraries are at a turning point. As technology rapidly transforms the way we access information, and resources are increasingly available online and in digital formats, the established role of the library as a physical space housing racks of books is looking increasingly out of step with the needs of students and researchers. Allied with technology, library users needs and preferences are helping to drive the change in libraries. Students, researchers and teachers now expect to be able to access information around the clock, from almost anywhere in the world and via a growing number of devices, from laptops to phones. As the information technologies are changing day-today and growing at a tremendous speed, the knowledge society is becoming more complex, competitive and dependent on technological changes and information explosion. The need for e-information services to the users are also growing and becoming very essential. The impact of web based e-learning and teaching environment has influenced every facet of library and information services in academic libraries and providing new opportunities and challenges to the library professional for involvement in the knowledge based society including electronic and multimedia publishing, Internet based-information services, global networking, web based digital resources etc. Libraries play an important role as a reliable and beneficial information provider in the students' academic success and performance.
The aim of this book is to investigate the student's satisfaction with library resources and services provided by the academic library. This book contains information on organizational patterns of large academic libraries in the US and Europe, providing data that could motivate libraries to adopt innovative organizational structures. In this book, you will learn about reference and information services offered by different types of libraries and need and importance of these services. Currently, libraries are offering different services aiming to improve the student experience, including a physical space where learners can find various materials such as books, dictionaries and encyclopedias; an area where students can chill-out and relax by listening to music or reading books; a place where students are able to find international magazines and discover what's going on worldwide; and independent study areas as well as collaborative learning spaces where students can meet up with other learners to complete group projects. Students of librarianship and information management will gain valuable insight from this book into user analysis and improving the performance of libraries.
