Greubel Forsey
... the ever-amazing GMT Earth Final Edition. high quality replica watches
Ten years ago, in 2011, Greubel Forsey unveiled the first version of its GMT watch. Over the past decade, the watch has gone on to become the company’s signature timepiece – after all, how could it not be when you put an entire three-dimensional globe on a watch? This morning, at Geneva Watch Days, the La Chaux-de-Fonds-based watchmaker announced the launch of its most cosmopolitan watch, the GMT Earth Final Edition.
Available in a limited edition of 11 pieces, the GMT Earth Final Edition follows the design of the original watch (previously crafted in white gold and platinum) with a new titanium construction for the case and movement bridges. To better compliment the sleek, lightweight nature of the metal, Greubel Forsey opted for a black finish on the dial and movement, including the baseplate and brushed bridges. replica swiss watches
The GMT Earth Final Edition continues the five key attributes that have defined the model over the past 10 years. The hours and minutes are displayed off-center, with a small seconds subdial on a sapphire disc flanking the main display. To the left is the main GMT function; here a 12-hour hand-engraved black gold disc with lacquer is applied, contrasting with the bright red hands. The power reserve display is on the other side of the main chronograph display, above the company’s 24-second tourbillon, which is tilted at a 25-degree angle.
If that’s not enough to seduce you, the star attraction of this watch is located between the traditional seven and nine o’clock positions on the dial – a full three-dimensional model of the Earth that rotates once every 24 hours. The 24-hour display is engraved on a sapphire ring around the equator, serving as a day/night indicator, allowing you to immediately tell which hemisphere is receiving sunlight. The position of the globe on the watch necessitated an asymmetrical profile for the case, which juts out laterally from the side of the watch, with the sapphire crystal accentuating the side view of the world. On the caseback, the Greubel Forsey completes its travel time indication via a rotating disc containing the UTC codes for the world’s 24 main time zones, with those that (unfortunately) observe daylight saving time set against a white background. I remember my first interview with brand founder Stephen Forsey a few years ago about the evolution of the Greubel Forsey GMT. He told me that when he and Robert Greubel first started the company in 2004, they were turned off by the remark that mechanical watchmaking had already invented everything of value.
The pair of watchmakers clearly saw this as a challenge, and after pioneering a number of different innovations in tourbillon watchmaking, they turned their sights on the GMT complication. best replica watches
The original Greubel Forsey GMT watch was exactly that – a warning shot to traditional watchmakers who have been iterating on the design language of travel time watches for over 70 years. The Earth 3D Globe shows the time of day and night in real time around the world, providing clear and accurate information and a visual understanding of the Earth’s natural rotation.
A few years ago, Jack had the pleasure of wearing an early Greubel Forsey GMT while attending the Baselworld Watch and Jewelry Show. In a subsequent Week on the Wrist, he said that the experience gave him “not the feeling of having won the watch lottery, but an almost philosophical tranquility; when I look at the time, I am not looking at the time, but looking at the time in a broader, more balanced perspective.” replica Greubel Forsey GMT watches
I think Jack is right. The Greubel Forsey GMT has always been a stunning watch, and I believe that its new titanium construction will only enhance its inherent wearability. But what makes watches like this so special is that they actually exist – a testament to our creative ability and a monument to our natural curiosity about the world around us.
